Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title novel substantially linear polymer useful as effluent oil-treating agents, etc., capable of gelling hydrocarbons in the presence of water, by polymerizing hexamethylenediamine in the presence of palladium (or its compound).
CONSTITUTION: A polyhexamethyleneimine having the recurrent unit expressed by the formula and a molecular weight ≥1,000, is prepared by heating (A) hexamethylenediamine in the presence of (B) palladium (or its compound), e.g. palladium black, at 50W300°C.
USE: Useful as materials preventing effluence or explosion accidents of low-boiling fuel oils, and also as ink or coating compositions when flowability is given.
