Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the impact resistance of the title polymer, by addition polymerization of a specific rubber-like copolymer with a 4-methyl-1-pentene polymer with a 6W18C straight chain α-olefin content <10%.
CONSTITUTION: A rubber-like copolymer (A) comprising 30W70 wt.% of 4-methyl- 1-pentene, 10W60 wt.% of 1-hexene, and 10W60 wt.% of a 7W10C straight chain α-olefin is subjected to addition polymerization in two steps to give the final content of A of 5W20 wt%. The polymerization conditions in the steps may be the same or different and 0W150°C and 1W20 kg/cm2. Preferably, the reaction system is a slurry state, and the intrinsic viscosity of the final product in decalin at 135°C is 0.5W1.5. The copolymer has original light weight and transparency, and improved impact resistance.
