Abstract

PURPOSE: To ultrafilter waste liquid containing boric acid, treat the filtrate with an ion exchange resin and recover the treated liquid as a primary coolant.
CONSTITUTION: The boric-acid-containing waste liquid from a nuclear power plant is conveyed from a storage tank 1 to a circulation tank 3 by a pump 2. The waste liquid is removed of suspended substances by a filter 5 in the circulation tank 3 and then transferred to an ultrafilter module 6. The concentrated suspension separated by the ultrafilter module 6 is returned to the circulation tank 3. The filtrate separated by the module 6 is temporarily stored in a tank 7 and then conducted to an ion exchange resin column 9 by pump 8. The filtrate is removed of ionic impurities by the column 9. Since the liquid drained from the ion exchange resin column 9 contains pure boric acid, the liquid is used again as the primary coolant. The suspended substances concentrated by the ultrafilter module 6 are concentrated further by an evaporator 11 and thereafter solidified with cement or the like.
