Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce an element, which has a low loss which can be easily produced, by combining lenses such that the light for bidirectionally transmitting through an optical fiber can be partially extracted. CONSTITUTION:A lens 15 is arranged such that its center axis 15c lies on the extension of the polished joint sides of lenses 16 and 17 of square refractive index distribution type. The light emanating from an optical fiber 11 is substantially collimated by the lens 15 and divided into halves, which are then introduced into the lenses 16 and 17, respectively. The light having entered the lens 17 is focused as an image having the same size as the core of the fiber 11 upon the center axis of the emanaging side. On the other hand, the light having entered the lens 16 is reflected with respect to the center axis 16c so that an image having the same size as that of the core of the fiber 11 upon the center axis 18c of the emanating side of a lens 18 and is transmitted to an optical fiber 12. The light from the fiber 12 is also divided into halves which are transmitted to fibers 11 and 14.
