Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a high n-butene-content C4 mixture, economically, by treating a butene fraction containing isobutylene with a specific catslyst, thereby selectively converting the isobutylene to oligomers having polymerization degree of ≥3, and removing the oligomer.
CONSTITUTION: Isobutylene in a butene fraction is converted to its oligomers (trimer or more) by treating with a catalytic system comprising a compound of formula RnAl2X6-n (R is alkyl; X is halogen; n is 6, 4, 3 or 2) and a fatty acid Ni salt at ≥50°C. The Ni salt is a 8C organic fatty acid salt containing 7.5W40 wt.% of free organic fatty acid or containing ≥35 wt.% of branched chain. The amount of the compound of the formula is 0.04W0.6 wt.% based on the isobutylene. The atomic ratio of Ni of Al in the catalytic system is 1 : 12W50.
