Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an olefin compound, useful as a starting material for the organic synthesis, in high yield and regiospecifically by the cross-coupling reaction of 2-pyridylallyl ether with a Grignard reagent.
CONSTITUTION: Olefin compounds of formula III and formula IV are obtained by the reaction of a compound of formula I (R1WR3=H, hydrocarbon residue) with a compound of formula II (R4=hydrocarbon residue). The compound of formula I can be obtained by the reaction of, e.g. 2-chloropyridine with an allyl alcohol. The products are different according to the sorts of allyl alcohol composing the compound of formula I. An α-substituted product is selectively obtained when a primary allyl alcohol is used, a γ-substituted product when a tertiary allyl alcohol is used, and their mixture when a secondary allyl alcohol is used.
