Abstract

PURPOSE: To non-destructively inspect the corrosion resistance of iron-nickel-chromium base alloys by measuring the change in eddy current value.
CONSTITUTION: Corrosion resistant alloys of Ni-Fe-Cr base, Ni-Cr-Fe base, FeNi-Cr Base, etc. are sensitized by heating hysteresis at 500 to 700°C resulting in decreased corrosion resistance. Further the sensitization is restored by long-term heating hysteresis of 500 to 800°C, resulting in the restored corrosion resistance. In correspondence to the abovementioned phenomena, the eddy current measuring value of the sample becomes small at the sensitizing phenomenon and becomes larger at the sensitization restoration time. Corrosion resistance test is performed by using these. Namely, a solution heat treated material, a sensitizing material and a sensitization restoring material are made by the material of the same quality and shape as those of the target material to provide standard materials. The values of corrosion amount by Heuy test, etc. and the current values by eddy current measurement are beforehand obtained with these and the eddy curent value obtained with the target material is compared with the abovementioned standard materials, whereby the corrosion resistance of the target material is evaluated.
