Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the substrate lighter in weight, stronger and more elastic than Al alloy substrates, make its surface accuracy better than conventional fiber-reinforced synthetic resin subsbtrates and obviate the collapse and cracking of the surface by reinforcing the substrate with carbon fibers.
CONSTITUTION: Carbon fibers of high strength or high elasticity desirably of a continuous shape are impregnated in the varnish form solution of the epoxy resin having been added with hardeners and curing accelerators and the solution is removed to yield the prepreg sheet of a half-cured state. The abovementioned sheet of preferably about 60% in the ratio of the carbon fibers to the thermosetting resin is sandwiched by the polyimide films which have been roughened only at one side by an aqueous solution of nitric acid. The assembly is then hot-pressed and molded in molds together with Al-made spacer rings 3, whereby the substrate for magnetic discs comprising covering both sides of the thermosetting synthetic resin 1 impregnated with the carbon fibers with the films 2 composed of thermoplastic synthetic resin may be obtained.
