Abstract

1522432 Moulding fibre reinforced plastics V RUGGERI 21 Oct 1976 43672/76 Heading B5A To improve the stiffness to weight ratio of a fibre reinforced resin article, e.g. a racing yacht, the article is moulded about removable elastic cores which form channels in the article. Layers of glass or carbon reinforced polyester or epoxy resin sheets are laid on a flat mould, rubber or P.V.C. cores are placed at intervals on this, and further layers of reinforced resin are applied over the cores. Further cores may be placed in the grooves so formed and covered with further layers of reinforced resin. After moulding any air bubbles are rolled out, the resin is cured, and the cores are withdrawn by pulling on their protruding ends.
