Abstract
PURPOSE: To make electrolyte control easy and improve measurement accuracy by mixing the specific fine particle materials in the electrolyte in a battery jar and using the electrolyte in paste form in the electrochemical (fuel cell type) gas detector.
CONSTITUTION: In the gas detector constituted by mounting a working electrode 2 to be contacted with the gas to be detected on the detected gas chamber 8 side and a sheet 5 for holding the counter electrode 2 and reference electrode 4 to be contacted to reference gas (atmospheric air) on the reference gas chamber 12 side respectively on both open ends of a tubular battery jar 1, sealing electrolyte 16 in the battery jar 1 and connecting the electrodes by way of a potentiostat 14 and ammeter 15; the paste form material comprising mixing fine particle form material having electrical insulation characteristic and moisture absorptivity in electrolyte such as sulfuric acid is used as the abovementioned electrolyte 16. Powder of silic acid anhydride of about, e.g., 1 to 100μm in particle size is used as the fine particle form material and it is desirable to add this about 50 wt.% to the sulfuric acid.
