Abstract

PURPOSE: An unique adsorbent which has a great adsorption capacity per unit weight, permits the miniaturization of adsorber, and is suitable for handling small amounts of physiological active substances, comprising a fiber assemblage of a denier of less than 1.
CONSTITUTION: An unique adsorbent comprises a high polymer fiber assemblage of a denier of less than 1, particularly 0.001 to 0.8 denier, e.g., polyamide, polyester, etc., including cotton which is particularly usable to advantage. The separation and purification of physiological active substances by using the adsorbent can be performed by well-known methods, e.g., a dipping method in which the adsorbent is dipped in a solution containing subject substances, a flowing method in which a solution containing subject substances is flowed down through the adsorbent packed in a column, etc. The adsorbent is particularly suitale for the separation and purification of enzymes such as urokinase, etc., and physiological active substances such as the cell of lymphocytes, coenzymes, enzyme inhibitors, hormones, etc.
