Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a thiazolidine derivative usesul as medicines, e.g. hypotensive agents, by hydrolyzing a thiazolidinecarboxylic acid derivative having a lower alkanoyl group at the side chain.
CONSTITUTION: A thiazolidinecarboxylic acid of formula I: (R1 is lower alkanoyl group; R2 is H or methyl group) is hydrolyzed in the presence of a base, e.g. NaOH, KOH, K2CO3, or Na2CO3, in a solvent, e.g. water, methanol, or ethanol, at room temperature, preferably in the atmosphere of nitrogen, to give a thiazolidine derivative of formula II, including all stereoisomers.
