Abstract
PURPOSE: To effect continuous operation of self-ignited combustion by maintaining active thermal circumstance, necessary for self-ignition, in stable condition until end of compression stroke of an engine.
CONSTITUTION: A recess 16, extending upwardly so as to communicate with a mixture supply port 13 at one end thereof and to be directioned toward a position where an opening time is earlier, is formed in an inner wall of a cylinder chamber 7. When an air supply port 14 is opened toward the inside of the cylinder 7 prior to the opening of the mixture supply port 13 caused by descending of a piston 6, the mixture supply port communicates with the inside of the cylinder 7 through the air supply port 14 and the recess 16, and thereby, a part of ignited gas flows into a mixture passage 17, contacts with mixture existing therein and heat it. As a result, activation of the mixture is begun to be effected.
