Abstract

PURPOSE: To change the surface conditions of polyester fibers greatly with a small amount of a polyester eluted to improve the hand, by treating a filament yarn, melt spun from the polymer containing specific amounts of titanium dioxide and calcium carbonate, withan alkali.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 0.05W3 wt%, preferably 0.07W2.6 wt.%, of finely divided titanium and (B) 1W5 wt.%, preferably 1.5W2 wt.%, of finely divided calcium carbonate are incorporated into a polyalkylene terephthalate. The blend is then melt spun into a filament yarn, which is treated with an alkali compound, e.g. sodium hydroxide, preferably in a 0.1W30% aqueous solution at room temperatureW150°C for 1 minW4 hr to elute at least 10 wt.% of the polyester. Preferably, the two components (A) and (B) are added in the form of a 5W35% wt.% alkylene glycol slurry.
EFFECT: Slight amount of polyester eluted permits easy waste liquor treatment.
