Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent spontaneous discharge, by connecting a phase-advancing capacitor between one end of a resistor and one end of a switch except for a parallel circuit consisting of a lamp and a starter. CONSTITUTION:A preheating current is picked out from a transformer T. A flashing switch S is connected to the secondary side of the transformer. The secondary voltage of the transformer falls to the vicinity of a minimum level necessary for the maintenance of discharge of the lamp depending on the fluctuation in the voltage of a power source. The stater Ig is coupled in parallel with the lamp L to start lighting on the lamp. The starter Ig has a resistor R connected in series with a parallel circuit consisting of a voltage-responsible element SSS and a capacitor Cs. The phase- advancing capacitor CM is connected between the switch and the node of the lamp L with the starter Ig to prevent the capacitor CM and the lamp L from forming a closed circuit when the switch S is opened. The spontaneous discharge is thus prevented.
