Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I: (R1 is bivalent aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic aliphatic hydrocarbon residue, etc.; R2 is aliphatic hydrocarbon group; R3 is H or aliphatic hydrocarbon group), and its salt.
EXAMPLE: Methyl p-(maleimido)benzimidate.
USE: Binders capable of binding sulfhydryl group-containing substances to amino group-containing substances efficiently, e.g. binding an enzyme to a carrier substance in enzyme immobilization.
PROCESS: An alcohol is added to a compound of formula III in the presence of a hydrogen halide in as dry a state as possible at a low temperature, e.g. -15 to 30°C, to given an imidate derivative salt, which is neutralized to form an imidate derivative. Alternatively, an alcohol is added to the compound of formula III in the presence of a base catalyst, e.g. a sodium alkoxide.
