Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the title catalyst of high activity by supporting a VIII group metal on a porous support obtd. by mixing a specified amt. of fluorocarbon into liquid lubricant-contg. polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) fine powder and molding the mixt. into a tubular shape followed by drawing and cutting.
CONSTITUTION: Liquid lubricant-contg. PTFE fine powder is mixed with 0.5W15% of fluorocarbon with a specific surface area of 150W400 M2/g, and the mixt. is molded into a tubular or rod shape by a paste extrusion method. After removing the lubricant the molding is drawn at below the m.p. of PTFE, heated to above the m.p. of PTFE while being fixed to prevent shrinkage, and then cut to a suitable length. 0.05W5% of a VIII group metal, esp. Pt is supported on the resulting porous support with a specific surface area of 2W60 M2/g and a porosity of 50W90%. By this method the support wt. per unit vol. can be reduced, the surface area is increased, and gas press. loss can be lowered.
