Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a method of automatically operating carrier bed, which is capable of carrying steel materials at a high speed and also capable of stopping the same correctly at a required position, by providing detectors at the outlet position of the steel materials on a carrier bed and a position slightly ahead of the outlet position, and switching the steel material carrying speed to the low-speed mode in the vicinity of said required stop position.
CONSTITUTION: Carrier bed 3 is driven by motor 4 for transporting steel materials 12. The motor 4 is operated normally at a low speed by the instruction of control unit 5. However, if carrier bed 3 is operated at a high speed by the command of operator 9 instructing high speed operation of motor 4, carrier bed 3 is switched to its low-speed operation when steel material 12 comes to the position of detector 2 and stops completely at the position of detector 1. Accordingly, it is enabled to stop steel materials 12 correctly at a required position and to shorten the time required for transportation of the steel materials 12.
