Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the subject method comprising detecting the pulsating flow of leaking fuel from a fuel injection valve as an electrical pulse by use of a hot-wire flow meter, thereby detecting the behavior of the nozzle needle valve in the fuel injection valve.
CONSTITUTION: A spring chamber 8 is filled with fuel leaking from the nozzle, and the fuel passes through an overflow pipe 8 and a conduit line part 10 and returns to a fuel tank. In this case, the leaking fuel generates a movement (flow speed) by the fuel injection. On the other hand, a current is caused to flow through the probe 12 of the a hot-wire flow meter 11 to constantly heat the same. Accordingly, the probe 12 is cooled in accordance with the flow speed of leaking fuel, and its electrical resistance varies by the variation of the flow speed. The variation of the electrical resistance is detected and treated by the hot-wire flow meter 11 to form an electrical pulse signal corresponding to the pulsating flow of the leaking fuel. By use of the pulse signal the timing of the rotational number of the nozzle needle valve can be measured.
