Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce six valency chromium to three valency chromium as no harm by passing sludge containing charomium through a step of high temperature reducing atmosphere when the sludge is incinerated in multi-stage incinerator.
CONSTITUTION: Sludge produced upon treating of sewage and factory waste water containing fine chronium is charged from an inlet 4 of a multi-stage incinerator 1. The sludge is introduced through a drying stage A, burning stage B, reducing stage C, and cooling stage D in the incinerator to be thus incinerated to become ash and to be exhausted from an outlet. CO gas is introduced into the stage C externally or activated charcoal or finely pulverized charcoal or the like is added thereto to produce CO gas to thereby produce atmosphere containing O2 < 1.0%, CO: 0.1 to 1.0%, the residue N at higher than 600° as rducing atmosphere. The six valency chromium passed through the stage B is reduced to three valency chromium to become ash of no harm and to be cooled at the stage C to be thus exhausted.
