Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform the microbiological assay of vitamins or amino acids, in a short time, without aseptic treatment, by making the vitamins, etc. contact with immobilized microorganisms which require the vitamins, etc., and determining the produced lactic acid.
CONSTITUTION: Microorganisms which require the vitamins or amino acids to be determined as nutrients, e.g. Lactobacillus arabinosus, etc., are immobilized in a polymer gel, e.g. agar gel. The concentrations of the agar gel and the microorganism are pref. 2W2.5 W/V%, and 0.1W1.0%, respectively. A specimen to be determined and the immobilized microorganisms are added to a specific amount of medium, and made to react for 1W2 hours at 15W40°C. The vitamins or amino acids in the specimen are determined by determining the produced lactic acid, pref. by using a glass electrode.
