Abstract
PURPOSE: To ensure an accurate detection of the object position with no effect of the temperature by counting the ultrasonic reflected wave arrival time from the object which varies by the temperature via the natural frequency number of the ultrasonic oscillator which also varies by the temperature.
CONSTITUTION: The intermittent wave of the ultrasonic wave given from head 1 is sent out toward road surface 2. Then reflected wave arrival time t1 from surface 2 or reflected wave arrival time t2 from car 3 is decided by period Tg of the car detection gate provided between t1 and t2, thus detecting the presence or absence of the cars. In such case, t1 and t2 vary by the change of the acoustic velocity caused by the temperature change, and thus misdecision may be possibly caused based on the fixed Tg. In this connection, the fact is utilized that natural frequency number fO of ultrasonic oscillator 101 varies by the temperature, that is, the pulse frquency supplied to counter 113 of gate circuit 112 is converted into frequency fO' which corresponds to the change of the acoustic velocity. As a result, the arrival time of the reflected wave from detector 115 changes by the counting velocity of counter 113 of changes in response to Tg even though it is changed by the temperature change, thus ensuring an accurate decision of the distance.
