Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable fluid of uneven distributions of velocities of flow to be readily coped with the by performing transmission and reception of acoustic waves through formation of different plural propagation routes and doing such things as removing the signals having been affected by channeling, air bubbles, etc. or averaging the respective signals. CONSTITUTION:The acoustic waves respectively oscillated from the first ultrasonic transducer part 2 in the P1 and P2 directions are reflected in the P3 and P4 directions by the reflecting faces M1 and M2 of the reflecting face parts 4 and 5 of the inside wall of a measuring pipe 1. In this way, the different plural propagation routes P1-P3 and P2-P4 are beforehand set, then even if air bubbles and foregin matter enter one routes, e.g., P1-P3 and the acoustic waves attenuate considerably, the transmission and reception of the acoustic waves by the propagation route P2-P4 are accomplished, thus producing no errors in measurement. If transmission is simultaneously accomplished with both propagation routes, the reception is accomplished simultaneously on the reception side and therefore if the receiving signals by both routes are summed, the large receiving signal is obtained even if there is some signal attenuation. If there is the effect of channeling, a lag occurs in the arrival time of both and therefore discrimination may be made based on this.
