Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate installation on the spot and reduce the cost of manufacture and maintenance, by integrating a wave receiver with a wave transmitter. CONSTITUTION:A transducer, which comprises an ultrasonic wave transmitter 2 and an ultrasonic wave receiver 4 integrated with each other, is mounted on the outside of a pipe 1 so that the straight line extending between the centers of the transmitter and the receiver is parallel with the axis of the pipe. The first gate circuit 8-1 selects only reflected waves transmitted through a fluid and then returned from the opposite side of the pipe. The second gate circuit 8-2 selects only echo waves reflected on the inside surface of the pipe without being transmitted through the fluid. The peak value of said reflected waves is detected by the first peak detection circuit 9-1. The gain of an amplifier 5 is adjusted depending on the peak value of the echo waves. As a result, an influence of a propagation medium except for the fluid is removed. The output voltage of the reflected waves is shown by an indicator. The flowing velocity of the fluid is determined from the indicated voltage.
