Abstract

PURPOSE: A pipe is filled with a liquid and any two points are frozen to cause pressure therebetween enough to expand the pipe statically.
CONSTITUTION: A pipe 2 is fully filled with a liquid such as water through the auxiliary pipe 9. The switch valve 17 is turned to the cooling side and the switch valves 6 are opened to fill the coolers 3 symmetrically arranged to the pipe plate 1 with cooling medium 15 such as liquid nitrogen. The pipe portions facing the coolers 3 are simultaneously frozen at frozing zone 14a, 14b. When the freezing proceeds, the unfrozen center portion 13b is experienced with strong forces from both sides. This pressure is indicated on the pressure gauge 12.
