Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the subject method comprising the steps of circulating and heating saturated steam within a bridge cylinder to form overheated steam, adjusting said overheated steam to a preset pressure, and supplying the same to the periphery of a cable to be bridged, thereby increasing the bridging speed without substantially increasing the steam pressure. CONSTITUTION:Saturated steam sealed in the heating part A of a bridge cylinder 3 is circulated and heated to form overheated steam, which is then adjusted to a preset pressure and supplied to the periphery of a cable to be bridged 1, thereby carrying out a heat bridging operation. For example, the unbridged (unvulcanized) plastic or rubber cable 1 is coated continuously with an extruder crosshead 2, and sent into a bridging cylinder 3 consisting of the heating part A and the cooling part B. Saturated steam 4 sealed in the heating part A is dried and converted into overheated steam by means of a heater provided at the outside of the cylinder, and forcibly caused to counter-flow by means of a circulator 6 and the pressure within the cylinder is retained at a pressure greater by about 1 to 2 atm than saturated steam pressure thereby to carry out heat bridging operation by means of a pressure adjusting device 7.
