Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently pour cooling water in emergency, by providing ducts which project over an upper tie plate and are connected to a passage box and by causing vapor of the coolant to flow out of a fuel assembly.
CONSTITUTION: The ducts 10 project over the passage box 5 of the fuel assembly. Each duct is closed at its bottom but open at its top. The internal openings 14 of the ducts are connected to water holes 12 of the passage box 5. The cooling water sprayed from a spray nozzle flows down into the nuclear fuel assembly through water holes 7 of the tie plate 6. Steam produce in the fuel assembly flows out of the assembly through the water holes 7, 12 and the internal openings 14 of the ducts. The pressure in the fuel assembly in thus reduced so that the cooling water is efficiently introduced into the fuel assembly through the water holes 7.
