Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a diazomethane derivative useful as a protective group of carboxyl group site of an organic compound, by oxidizing a hydrazone derivative with available hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizing agent.
CONSTITUTION: A hydrazone derivative of formula I: [R1 and R2 are (un)substituted aromatic group) is oxidized with 20% or more of hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a catalyst at room temperature W40°C to form a diazomethane derivative. For example, 1,1-diphenyldiazomethane can be obtained quantitatively.
