Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The titled derivative of formula I (R1,R3 are H or OH-protecting group; R2 is H, OH or protected OH).
USE: Intermediate of active-type vitamin D3.
PROCESS: A compound of formula I wherein OR3 is OH is prepared by oxidizing, e.g. 1mol of a 3β-hydroxy-24-oxochlesta-5,7-diene derivative of formula II with oxygen in the presence of pref. 1W10mol of a basic compound such as sodium t-butoxide, pref. in an organic liquid such as benzene. The oxidation reaction is pref. carried out in a closed system by introducing and dissolving 0.5W2mol of oxygen in 1mol of the compound of formula II while stirring at -20 W+20°C.
