Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the aggravation of the engine combustion state when EGR is performed by detecting whether an exhaust gas recirculation control valve (EGR controlling valve) is opened or not and by controlling the advance in ignition timing by said detection signal. CONSTITUTION:The apparatus consists of an exhaust gas recirculation control valve 13 which drives a diaphragm 13e, having the intake negative pressure of an engine as a driving source, and switches exhaust gas recirculation through opening and closing a vlave 13d, a valve turning detecting means 15 which detects the opening and closing state of the exhaust gas recirculation controlling valve 13, and a control circuit 16 which advances the engine ignition timing by a fixed value, when the signal of the valve turning detecting means 15 is applied, and the exhaust gas recirculation controlling valve 13 is opened. As ignition timing can be advanced when exhaust gas recirculation is performed, the combustion state in the engine is not made worse.
