Abstract
PURPOSE: A catalyst composition has a oxyacid salt structure containing a specific proportion of Mo, W, BI, Ce, O and exhibits an excellent catalytic action in a reaction in which olefin, particularly propylene is ammoxidized to form acrylonitrile.
CONSTITUTION: A new catalyst composition is oxyacid salt structure represented by the formula. One example is expressed by Mo8.25W3.75Bi3Ce5O48 which is used in single or in carried form by silica or alumina. In preparing such catalytic composition, Mo compound (e.g. MoO3), W compound (e.g. WO3), Bi compound (e.g. Bi(NO3).5H2O) and Ce compound (e.g. Ce(NO3)3) are mixed in aqueous solution and adjusted to a pH of 6 to 13, heated under agitation to evaporate water to provide powder. The resultant power is fired under air flow at 500 to 700°C to produce a desired catalytic composition. The catalyst composition is used in a reaction in which propylene is reacted in the presence of NH3 and O2 to produce acrylonitrile in a high yield throughput.
