Abstract

CONSTITUTION: The permanent magnet alloy contains rare earth elements such as Sm, etc., and transition metals such as Co, Cu, Fe, etc., in a proportion of the relationship R[CO1-u-v-w CuuFevMw]q, where R is a rare earth element such as Sm and M is one or two or more transition metals such as Ta, etc., and U is ≤ 0.20, v is 0.01 to 0.60, w is 0.005 to 0.05, and q is 6.5 to 8.8. The alloy ingot with the composition is ground into average 4 micron grain size of particles, molded by press forming, and then sintered at 1200°C for 1 hour. After sintering, it is rapidly cooled in a current of a gas and then heat treated at 800°C for 1 hour and 400°C for 20 hours. Thus permanent magnet of excellent magnetic characteristics can be obtained.
