Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a film having improved weatherability free from defects, e.g. cracking and peeling, by coating an article with (A) an aqueous coating material containing a specific neutralizing agent as a base coating and (B) a powder acrylic coating material as a clear coating according to the two-coat and one-bake method.
CONSTITUTION: An article is coated with (A) an aqueous base coating material of (a) an aqueous or water-dispersible resin prepared by neutralizing a thermosetting resin having hydroxyl and carboxyl groups, with (b) an amine, e.g. dimethylethanolamine, (c) a methylmethylol melamine resin as a hardener, and (d) a color pigment to form a film, which is set below at such a temperature that the ingredient (b) may dissociate from the resin. The film is then coated with (B) a powder clear coating compound comprising (e) an acrylic resin having glycidyl groups and (f) an organic acid (anhydvide), e.g. phthalic anhydride, as a hardener. The film thus obtained is baked and hardened at such a temperature that 80% or more of the amine in the base coating material may dissociate.
