Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a film having improved weatherability, by coating an article with (A) a base coating material consisting of a functional group-containing thermosetting resin and an amine-containing solvent and (B) a powder clear coating material consisting of a glycidyl group-containing acrylic resin and a hardener according to the two-coat and one-bake method.
CONSTITUTION: An article is coated with (A) a solvent-type color base coating material comprising (a) a thermosetting resin having hydroxyl and carboxyl groups as functional groups and (b) an amine, e.g. dimethylethanolamine, as part of a solvent. The coat is set at a temperature below the boiling point of the amine in the component (b). The article is then coated with (B) a powder clear coating material comprising (c) an acnylic resin having glycidyl groups as functional groups, and (d) an organic acid (anhydride), e.g. phthalic anhydride, as a hardener. The coats are baked and cured at a temperature higher than the boiling point of the amine to give the disired clear film having improved weatherability.
