Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for the space for installing an independent lightening arrester by using a bushing insulator, which is made of a sintered substance mainly composed of ZnO and imparted with the function of a lightening arrester.
CONSTITUTION: A bushing insulator 1 is formed from a sintered substance having a non-linear resistance characteristic by molding a material obtained by slight quantities of Bi2O3, MnO2 and Cr2O3 to ZnO as main substance and sintering the the molding at a suitable temperature. A conductor 1 penetrates this insulator 1 and is connected at one end to an electric apparatus and at the other end to the charging side line. A metal ring 3 coupled to the top of the insulator 1 is coupled by means of screwing to the conductor 2, and a metal plate 4 is coupled to the lower end of the insulator 1 and clamped by a nut 8 via an insulating spacer 8. Thus, the insulator 1 usually serves as such, while with a sock voltage applied to it its resistance is suddenly reduced to prevent increase of the terminal voltage.
