Abstract

PURPOSE:To almost eliminate sensitivity deterioration after hydrogen sensitization treatment, to reduce rise of fog, and to enable enhancement of storage stability in storage before exposure, by laminating a specified water permeative layer and by conserving the title material under H2 atmosphere after vacuum treating. CONSTITUTION:A silver halide emulsion layer containing preferably both of gold and sulfur sensitizers is formed on a base. On this layer a protective layer is formed consisting of polyvinylalcohol with 60% or more remaining OH groups, polysaccharide, cellulose, pullulan, or these derivatives and of a binder such as gelatin, and having an O2 permeability of 20 milliliters per m<2>.hr.atom. or less and water permeability. This silver halide photographic material is allowed to stand under a vacuum of lower than 10<-2> Torr for longer than 1 minute to remove O2 and water, and then is kept under H2 atmosphere.
