Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the eye inspection of wet condition in a container by containing a reactive member which varies the state in accordance with the humidity in a transparent, enclosed insulative container for containing the arrester element.
CONSTITUTION: Porcelain tube 1 for containing the arrester element 6 composed of non-linear resistor such as sintered zinc oxcide is formed of transparent insulator such as transparent glass. Cylindrical support 7 composed of metallic conductor and having franges at both ends are placed between the arrester elements 6 to produce a space for arranging the reactive member 8. Silica gel, for example, which exhibits the discoloration when it absorved the moisture more than predetermined amount is employed as the reactive member. With such arrangement, when a defect occurred in the enclosed structure of the arrester 9 to allow the intrusion of water in the air, the reactive member 8 discolors which can be confirmed from the exterior through eye or a telescope.
