Abstract

PURPOSE:To secure an accurate confirmation for the self-position of the mobile object by sending the omega information to the ground station from the mobile object, sending the distance measurement signal back to the mobile object from the ground station and calculating the distance between the mobile object and the satellite at the ground station based on the omega information as well as the time required for going and coming back to transmit the calculation result to the mobile object. CONSTITUTION:The position measurement system comprises satellite 1, mobile object 2, ground station 3 plus omega stations 4a-4c. Mobile object 2 such as a ship, plane or the like receives the omega information from stations 4a-4c and then transmits the omega information such as the lane information to station 3 via satellite 1, and at the same time transmits in return the distance measurement signal sent from station 3 to station 3. After this, the distance between satellite 1 and object 2 is measured at station 3 based on the time required for going and coming back of the distance measurement signal, and thus the position of object 2 is calculated accurately based on the distance measurement result and the omega information. The position information thus obtained is transmitted to object 2 via satellite 1, and object 2 receives the position information to know the correct and accurate position of its own.
