Abstract
1333806 Pulse radar INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 29 July 1971 [5 Aug 1970] 35643/71 Heading H4D In a radio position-finding system, or analogous method, station A transmits interrogation pulses, station B transmits reply pulses, station A measures by means of phase-comparison monopulse apparatus the bearing of the interrogation pulses and transmits this measurement by modulation of the reply pulses, and the distance AB is measured at A and transmitted to B by means of the interrogation pulses. Station A may be an aircraft and station B on the ground. In the embodiment pulse pairs are utilized and data transmission is by digital amplitude or frequency or spacing or phase of a pulse pair. The direction finder consists of two pairs of aerials on orthogonal axes forming a wide-base system and two pairs of aerials on the same axes forming a narrow-base system; the connections between each pair of aerials and its pair of receivers, and between receivers and phase-difference evaluators, are interchangeable. Interrogating stations having the same azimuth modulate an identification signal on the interrogation pulses which they respectively transmit.
