Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a Cr alloy film of high Cr content on plastics without cracking the plastics by producing a target electrode contg. much Cr by spraying and then sputtering the target in a vacuum.
CONSTITUTION: By plasma spraying, etc. a 0.1W1 cm thick target electrode is produced which is made of alloy contg. relatively much Cr, e.g. Cr alloy consisting of Cr; 20W90 wt%, C and Si; trace amts., and most of the balance iron. This target electrode is then sputtered in a vacuum to form a Cr alloy thin film on plastics such as ABS resin plate on which thermosetting urethane type resin coating has been coated and set. Using the target electrode release of gas from the binder of a conventional sintered target electrode is avoided, and occurence of strain and cracks due to a rise in temp. is prevented perfectly.
