Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide welding wire for cast iron, with small coefficient of thermal expansion, excellent in crack resistance of deposited metal and in mechanical properties, and made of alloy with specific composition and hardness.
CONSTITUTION: The wire is made of an Ni-Fe alloy consisting of, by wt., 50W60% Ni, 0.4W1.0% Mn, 0.15W0.4% Si, 0.5W8.0% Mo, the remainder being Fe, and has a hardness in a range of 100W300 Hv. Si of 0.15% or more is required for increasing the fluidity of the molten metal, however 0.4% or moe of Si makes the welded metal britle. Mo of 0.5% or less increased longitudinal crack effect in the bead of fillet weld, and 8.0% of more of Mo deteriorates the toughness of the deposited metal. Hardness of 100Hv or less causes buckling distortion, and 300 Hv or more makes the feed of the wire difficult because of excessive hardness.
