Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate a basic gas simply and efficiently by allowing SO2 gas to be adsorbed on activated carbon at below a specific temp. in the presence of O2 and moisture and using the resulting carbon as an adsorbent.
CONSTITUTION: SO2 gas is allowed to be absorbed on known activated carbon for gaseous phase at below 100°C in the presence of O2 and moisture. The amt. of the gas adsorbed is usually about 20 g to 100 g of the carbon. The SO2-adsorbed carbon is then packed into a column, and by passing a basic gas through the packed column the gas is allowed to be adsorbed on the carbon and removed efficiently. The temp. of the gas introduced into the column is pref. regulated to below 200°C. The basic gas includes NH3 and amines such as monomethylamine.
