Abstract

PURPOSE:To melt coloring matter and to transfer it to printing paper, by coating a conductive solid coloring matter film containing a dye melting at a fixed temperature on a conductive film to form a coloring material, and by flowing current from electrode members. CONSTITUTION:Coloring matter film 2 melting at a fixed temperature and being solid at ordinary temperature is coated on conductive film 1 having a fixed resistivity to form coloring material 7. Electrode members 300-300+n are provided contacting to material 7 and selectively applying current. Flow of current through this selectively heats material 7 and liquidifies the solid coloring matter, impregnating printing paper 6 in close contact to film 2 with this coloring matter to fix it permanently. This conductive ink type thermal printer in such constitution permits plain paper to be used, power consumption to be small, typing speed to be high, durability to be ensured, and fine characters and drawings to be printed.
