Abstract
PURPOSE: To heighten an efficiency of the speed changer with a function ceased of the torque converter according to a change of the load, by providing a clutch capable of directly coupling the turbine and the pump of the torque converter, further by connecting in series a subspeed changer variable in two stages of the speed.
CONSTITUTION: A torque converter 2 is constructed by a turbine 3, a pump 4 and a stator 10. Though a stepless speed variation is normally operated, with a clutch A connected, the turbine 3 and the pump 4 can be coupled. A two-step speed change can be operated by means of connecting a clutch B or the clutch C of a planetary gear type sub-speed changer 7. Accordingly, by a combination of the torgue converter 2 and the sub-speed changer 7, a speed change characteristic of four kinds is obtained. In this way, the speed change characteristic will be provided correspondingly to various kinds of operational characteristic. In addition, a main speed changer 6 may be additionally provided.
