Abstract
PURPOSE:To exactly prevent the occurrence of the hydrogen defect of steel material by avoiding the intermixture of moisture in molten steel by a procedure in which refining additive containing CaC2 is dehydrated by heating prior to addition. CONSTITUTION:Prior to the addition of a refining additive containing CaC2 to molten steel in a ladle, the additive is heated in the Ar atmosphere. The removal of moisture is made because the calcium hydroxide present in the additive is decomposed into calcium oxide and water. The additive thus dehydrated is blown into the molten steel by means of an inert gas, where good quality steel which is free of white spot fracture can be obtained.
