Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a damping characteristic proportional to the speed of load by providing a cylinder, which contains highly viscous liquid and in which a spiral spring adapted to flex with the operation of a rod is provided. CONSTITUTION:When a load is applied to a rod 6 in the axial direction thereof, the inner end of a spiral spring 9 is moved together with the rod 6 in the axial direction of a cylinder 1, while the outer end of the spring 9, secured to the cylinder 1, is held stationary. At this time, a shearing force is produced in the liquid 12 between the opposite end plates of the spring 9 due to the viscosity of the liquid, and it has a damping effect upon the rod 6. When a load is applied in a direction of causing rotation of the rod 6, the spring 9 undergoes extension or contraction, so that a shearing force due to the viscosity of the liquid 12 between the opposite end plates of the spring 9 is produced to have a damping effect upon the rod 6.
