Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a hearth which makes it possible to accelerate the fall of molten material and to prevent simultaneously the fall of solid material, by making a penetrating hole in the lower floor and by installing an upper floor, which is slightly larger than the penetrating hole, above the lower floor.

CONSTITUTION: At the central part of the lower floor 2 is made a circular penetrating hole 3, and on the surface of the lower floor 2 are fixed three upper-floor legs 4 made of refractory material and of rectangular cross section. The upper floor, which is flat and has area slightly larger than that of the penetrating hole 3, is fixed to the legs 4 in parallel with the lower floor 2. In this constitution, the material to be treated, which is charged downward to the moving bed 6 of the material to be treated, reaches near the upper 5 and lower 2 floors in the form of char while burning or thermally decomposing. The char stops in arc-shaped spaces 7 enclosed with the upper floor 5, the lower floor 2, and the upper floor legs 4 by the friction with the surfaces of these floors or legs, so that the char is prevented from falling through the penetrating hole 3. Then char burns to form ash, which malts and falls through the penetrating hole 3.
