Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the crushing capacity of a screw-type extruder without lowering the molecular weight of a resin, by crushing a hydrous gel of a water-soluble vinyl polymer for polymer flocculant-use at a specific temperature range.
CONSTITUTION: A hydrous gel (water content: 30W90wt%) of a water-soluble vinyl polymer useful as a polymer flocculant, selected from (A) acrylamide homopolymer, (B) a homopolymer of an unsaturated fatty acid or its salt, (C) a homopolymer of an unsaturated fatty acid aminoalkyl ester (its salt, or quanternized compound), (D) a copolymer of monomers selected from acrylamide and unsaturated fatty acids (or their salts), and (E) a copolymer of monomers selected from acrylamide and unsaturated fatty acid aminoalkyl esters (their salts or their quaternized compounds), is extruded to strands or powders through a plurality of nozzles having a diameter of 1W10 mm, by a screw-type extruder at 70W110°C.
