Abstract
PURPOSE: In the production of sorbic acid by the acidolysis of a polyester, a large quantity of recrystallization mother liquor, which has been wasted, is adjusted in pH to 5W7, concentrated by reverse osmosis, thereby recovering inexpensively high- quality sorbic acid in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: In the production of sorbic acid by the acidolysis of a polyester to form wet cakes of crude sorbic acid and the recrystallization of them in hot water, the recrystallization mother liquor containing 0.1W0.3% of sorbic acid is adjusted in pH to 5W7 with an adequate alkali and then concentrated by reverse osmosis using acetylcellulose or aromatic polyamide films to an extent of 1W2%. When the concentrate is adjusted in pH to 3W4, sorbic acid precipitates as crystalls.
