Abstract
PURPOSE: To purify and to pulverize crude guinacridone simultaneously, and to obtain γ-type crystal of quinacridone with ease and industrially, by dissolving crude quinacridone in dimethyl sulfoxide in the presence of a caustic alkali and water, followed by nentralizing the alkaki with a mineral acid.
CONSTITUTION: Crude quinacridone of any crystalline phase is dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide preferably in an amount of 4W20 times as much as quinacridone in the presence of a caustic alkali and water. The solution thus obtained is neutalized with a minel acid, e.g., sulfuric acid (may be diluted with dimethyl sulfoxide or water) to give the desired finely divided particle γ-type quinacridone. The amount of caustic alkali is 1.5W2.5 times as much as moles of quinacridone; that of water, 25W30 wt.% based on dimethyl sulfoxide.
EFFECT: Improved heat and weather resistance.
